Fire Department

The Winterset Fire Department was established in 1872. We are proud to preserve the rich history and traditions of 150+ years of service.

Winterset Fire Department is the largest fire district in Madison County covering over 300 square miles that include ten townships and two cities. We respond to an average of 130 calls a year. We provide fire protection and other essential emergency services. The fire station was built in 1977 and houses three pumpers, two tankers, two smaller brush trucks, and one command/ attack vehicle, and a new UTV.

We carry a variety of specialized tools from grain bin recuse tools, gas detectors, and AEDS to the Jaws of life. Winterset Fire is actively involved in our community including several parades, charitable events, station tours, and public fire safety programs. Our current projects include the rescue of two retired fire trucks from the scrap yard. A 1972 American Lafrance pumper and a 1954 Ford Pumper, these trucks will be preserved for future generations to enjoy. We are currently raising funds for equipment for our department. Thank you for your support.
